2003 Miami Hurricanes Football Game Archives

Coral Gables, FL (AP) - The Miami Hurricanes began the 2003 football season with victories over #22 ranked Texas A&M and Army.

Texas A&M Game Summary

Hurricanes tailback Frank Gore rushed for 245 yards in the season opener against the #22 ranked Aggies of Texas A&M as the Canes win in a blow-out 51-21.

The Aggies defense was no match for the ground game of Miami as Gore piled up the yards. Gore had rushed for 180 yards by the end of the first half, and by the end of the third quarter Gore had racked up 245 yards and four rushing touchdowns. Coker having the game well in hand had placed all of the back-ups into the game for the entire fourth quarter. Coming in for starting tailback Frank Gore was Jarrett Payton who was able to rush for 54 yards on his own in the one quarter of action that he saw.

Army Game Summary

Coming off of an impressive seaon opener, Miami welcomed the Army Cadets into the Orange Bowl. Miami rolled again adding another 50+ points onto the scoreboard. The Canes crush the Cadets 56-3 holding Army to just a field goal scored in the first quarter.

What looked to be like another 240 yard rushing day on paper for Miami starting tailback Frank Gore was anything but easy. A well prepared Army was able to hold Gore for only 64 yards on the day. As the Cadets worked on stopping the ground attack, Canes quarterback Brock Berlin went to the air. Berlin threw for 400 yards through and had a career day seven touchdown passes.
